Book Writing and Sudoku

Sudoku is one of my favorite brain games, and even though I don’t have the patience for the wicked ones, I do like keep my brain thinking by challenging it with numbers.  There comes a point in the game, after you have coded each box with the possibilities, when filling in one more number will produce the final string of correct number placements, completing the board.  I realized this is much like problem solving in every day life.

When I look at the time line for completing my first book and all the pieces that have to fall together, it is overwhelming, much like a blank board game.  I have to take the time to analyze where each piece fits in and how it is going to be accomplished.  I am at the point with my book where I am sharing it with peer editors, just so I can have some feedback on the layout, chapter headings, content, etc.  All of that is followed by some more editing on my part before I hand it off to a real editor in January.  In the meantime, along with the writing, it is time to find a cover artist,  think about the layout of the book and most critically, begin to market my book.  That involves writing feature articles for magazines, speaking engagements, social networking, etc.  What I realize though is that all these pieces to my book are just like coding the squares in the puzzle.  It seems challenging piece by piece, number by number.  What I know is this.  There will come a time when I hit critical mass, and all the work I have put into the book will start a ball rolling and the rest of the process will proceed quickly because I have been planning for it all along.

Of course, none of this book structure would have come together without the help of Andrea Costantine and Lisa Shultz and their new book called “How to Bring Your Book to Life this Year.” This is a complete how to guide that will walk you through the whole process of getting your book to print.   I met with Andrea in January and told her my goal was to write my book this year.  When I broke my wrist in January, I didn’t think it would be possible.  Yet I was persistent, and with the help of these women, I will be celebrating my book launch date in April of 2011!  My book is called “She Moved Mountains” and it is the story of my journey back to health after a long illness.

Having faith and persistence is the only way to play the game of sudoku, to write a book , and to live life!  Eventually all the pieces fall into place, and you are rewarded with completed puzzle, your very own book in your hands, and a life full of meaning.

Speaking Your Truth Book

I am so grateful to be a part of the Speaking Your Truth book, that will be released August 25.

To learn more about the book, visit Speaking Your Truth

So what does it mean to Speak Your Truth?

It means embracing the person you are and letting the world know that who you are is good enough.

It means finding your voice and telling others your story and allowing the telling to bring healing to your life.

It means standing up for yourself and giving yourself permission to grief and then let go of a not so perfect past.

It means gathering the strength within you to take the next step into a brighter future.

This book compiles the stories of 49 women who have faced obstacles, overcome adversity, embraced their own truth, and are now walking a path of  healing and wholeness.  Imagine how reading their stories might inspire you to find your own truth and begin to live it.   Andrea Constantine and Lisa Schultz have partnered together on this project and there are plans for future books.  Maybe your story will be in the next edition!

Be sure to visit the website, and on August 25th, please support all of us by going to Amazon.com and purchasing the book.  The life you change won’t just be your own.

I continue to be inspired by Andrea’s writings and thoughts about being in the flow.  We are our own worst enemies, pulling ourselves off track.  Andrea’s columns are a great reminder to be in a state of awareness and allowing, and trusting that you are in the right place.  Enjoy!  Jan

A Sign For Change

There comes a time in our lives and businesses that things begin to unravel. We may feel restless, exhausted, confused or hopeless. Whatever the feelings may be we know that in our core that these are not the feelings that we want to live in.

These emotions; however, daunting they may feel bring out a truth that we cannot deny. Wherever we are, or wherever we are headed is not aligned with our spirit. These feelings come as a warning sign that we have misdirected our course, that we’ve gotten off track, or perhaps the pathway we’ve been on has simply expired and a new one is ready to emerge.

Whatever the outcome may be, the truth is that these feelings and emotions are simply a sign for change.

As scary as change may be, in times of distress or duress, it can be the fastest way of moving towards something that is more aligned with who you are now in this very moment.

There comes a time when you simply have to shake things up. You let go of commitments, beliefs, people, ideas, and ways of being that no longer serve you. You open up the space to allow what is needing to come through to evolve and be shown to you.

You drop your guard and surrender – knowing that the Universe never takes you down a path that doesn’t serve your highest good. You simply give up your will, for the will of the divine.

As you allow yourself to be lead, as you stop leading your life, and you simply wait for the answers – the inspired action to move you forward, you are able to move into a new space, a new direction.

Despite the painful feelings of the past you know they were simply a sign for change, a message from the Universe that things are about to get shaken up.

And while you may not see the steps of the new path, you trust that what lies ahead is a way for you to be more, serve more people, and achieve your greatest purpose.

But you see none of this could happen if you keep holding on to where you are right now, if you are still forcing things to look the way you want them to look, and if you are fighting the signs of change.

But what if you simply surrendered, you moved out of the way, opened up the gates of divine wisdom, stepped aside and said out loud – I’m done, I’ll let you lead now.

How beautiful would your life look then?

The Soulful Marketer

Today I had the great pleasure of working with Andrea Costantine, a woman who is an incredible source of light and information about soulful marketing. I paid for some one on one time with Andrea and I loved every minute of being on the phone with her.  First, she affirmed my journey and congratulated me on the steps I have made towards my goal.  My passion and joy in life is writing.  Not only do I have a story (Or two or three!) to tell,  I have a goal of increasing my readership list to 1000 people by the end of the year. I am choosing to focus my efforts online, through my blog and social networking, and inviting people to sign up for my monthly newsletter.  Andrea had wonderful suggestions about enticing readers to learn more about me and my book project.   I now have a focus about what kinds of content will show up on my blog.  I have spread myself too thin for so long, trying to do too many things, and not feeling good about completing any of them with grace and ease.  With a centralized focus, and scheduled writing times, I feel much more like my goal is possible.  If anyone is struggling to find their way, or are wondering how to follow their passion and make money doing it, I highly suggest getting into contact with Andrea.  She listens and leads with her heart, and you will walk away from your encounter with her with more focus, energy and direction about how to live and be successful doing and BEING what you love!
